Kid Lit Author and Advocate

My name is Michelle Eastman. I am a children’s author, teacher, and mom who is passionate about children’s literacy and the power of picture books.

I am the author of two children’s books, The Legend of Dust Bunnies, a Fairy’s Tale, and Dust Fairy Tales: Absolutely Aggie. Books are available at amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and Ingram distributors worldwide. Personalized books are available on my website michelleeastmanbooks.com

Working with children, and my passion for picture books, inspired me to found the literacy initiative Picture Book Pass it On (PBPiO), to get free books to kids in need.

Every March, I host a special book drive called MARCHing Books to Kids. Although the drive is in March, you can donate books anytime.

We collect books for the VNS of Iowa Storybook Project, serving children of incarcerated parents.
Each month, VNS of Iowa volunteers record incarcerated moms reading selected books aloud. Each participating inmate’s child receives his/her mom’s recording and the book to keep. The mothers may select new books each month.

After you donate, please share at www.facebook.com/PBPiO/ and tag a friend and challenge her/him to “MARCH” it on with their own donation. #MARCHingBookstoKids

You can mail (please ship via “media mail” to avoid damage to the package) here:

In addition to MARCHing Books to Kids, I celebrate the power of picture books year-round, with the Picture Book Pass it On challenge. #PBPiO challenges others to get books to kids in need by creating their own grassroots movements.

I hope you will join Picture Book Pass it On by accepting 3 calls to action:

Join in the fun! It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3…

#1 Pledge to donate a new or gently used picture book/s to a children’s charity in your area.

#2 Post your pledge on our Facebook page. Share it on your blog and on social media. Please include our badge and #PBPiO

#3 Pass it on. When you post about your pledge, challenge one or more friends to join your #PBPiO giving chain. Encourage them to take the pledge and keep passing it on…

Please share your giving stories on this page. We love to see how books are reaching kids all over the globe.

Hi Mariam. I think what you have created with the recognition awards is fabulous. I am happy to participate. I love the idea of recognizing and encouraging others in the book blogging community. I just started an experimental project where I post a “Cyber-Samaritan Shout-Out” each week. The shout-out is intended to thank and recognize the many individuals who have helped me on my journey to self-publishing my first children’s picture book. I’ll post my first official shout out tomorrow. Here’s a link to the original post https://michelleeastmanbooks.wordpress.com//?s=cyber+samaritans
Thanks again for reaching out, and I wish you joy in all of your endeavors.

      Michelle

Hello! I just wanted to say that I’ve nominated your blog for the One Lovely Blog Award. Why? Well, that’s because I like reading your blog. I’m preparing for my own attempts at children’s book publishing myself. Here’s the post if you wish to see: http://jdtcreates.wordpress.com/2014/10/15/spreading-the-love-one-lovely-blog-award/

Hi there! Wow! Thanks for reading and nominating my blog (you were one of the very first people to follow my blog). I popped over to take a quick look, and the spreading the love site and concept are awesome. I am all for “spreading the love”. I’ll be able to take a deeper look at it this weekend. Thanks again, and my best to you as you begin your publishing adventure. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions. I am always happy to help.

      Take care,
      Michelle
